  1. Bernie, have you seen Ian's new results? I-Y62258+. You appear to have posted about 90 minutes before an email about it from FTDNA arrived in my mailbox.

Be careful of Balthazar DeWolf's origins. Balthazar DeWolf's origins are a mystery, but his name suggests Low Countries. He showed clear signs of having been educated in England. He wrote well in an English hand and had some sort of English legal training. He showed up in Connecticut around 1650, near the coast, and attached himself to a prosperous Puritan family there. There were people of the name in New Amsterdam, a short distance down the coast, and the entire Connecticut River Valley was still atleast arguably Dutch territory at that time. Several published DeWolf genealogies argue hotly that he belonged to a Silesian noble family, without any particular evidence. The name DeWolf belongs to the the Netherlands and Belgium, as does the name Balthazar. There are many families of Puritan times, whose origins cannot be pinned down between England and the Low Countries on account of the tens of thousands of people who migrated back and forth. We were hoping to get better clues ... I just suggested to Ian that YFull might be a good way to keep abreast of further developments.

  2. Hi Dora. Thank you for the information about the DeWolf family. There are some other people in the cluster who have clear ancestry from Spain, they were born in Spain and all their known family is from Spain. And some others are American and French with less clear origins, but they have Spanish or French surnames and pedigrees.

Ian's Big Y-700 was completed today. Zdenko will write a report in a few days, and then Zdenko will update our I-Y11222 draft tree, and then I will write a new post to this blog and include the nre tree.
